Planned in the spring. Done before the buses roll.
School districts and campuses get one real construction window a year — and budgets that have to survive a board meeting. We plan roofing around both: evidence in the spring, execution in the summer, documentation for the board all year.
Schedule My Free Roof Assessment01 · The stakes
Ninety days to do a year’s worth of roofing.
Education roofing is a scheduling problem before it’s a roofing problem. The realistic work window is June through August, materials have lead times, and every project on campus is competing for the same ninety days. Districts that scan and scope in the spring own their summer. Districts that wait for the first fall leak lose a year.
The other half is money. Roof budgets in education survive on evidence — a scan report and a condition score do more for a facilities director at a board meeting than any contractor’s opinion. We write our assessments knowing they’ll be read aloud to people who have to defend every dollar to taxpayers.
02 · Built for the industry
What we plan around — and how we answer it.
The realities of a campus
-
One ninety-day window
Summer break is the schedule. Miss it — on planning, permits, or materials — and the project waits a year.
-
Students on site
Summer school, athletics, camps, staff — campuses are never actually empty. Safety and staging have to assume kids nearby.
-
Budgets that face voters
Capital requests, bond referenda, board approvals — every roofing dollar needs a paper trail that survives public scrutiny.
-
Aging buildings, missing records
Decades of additions and re-roofs, often with no reliable as-builts. What’s under the membrane is frequently a surprise.
How Lionstar answers
-
Spring diagnostics, locked summer schedules
Scans and scopes completed by May, materials ordered early, crews committed — so the window is spent roofing, not planning.
-
Secured, separated staging
Fenced staging, protected walk paths, and crews briefed on campus protocols. We plan every site as if school were in session — because part of it always is.
-
Board-ready evidence
Condition scores, scan imagery, and multi-year plans written to be presented — several districts use our reports directly in bond planning.
-
Core cuts before commitments
Where records are missing, we verify what’s actually in the assembly before pricing — so the number the board approves is the number it costs.

The education playbook, in order.
A school roof program runs on the calendar. Here’s the sequence that makes the window work.
04 · Questions
Questions we hear from your desk.
Can roofing work happen during the school year?
Repairs and maintenance, yes — scheduled around the school day, with secured staging and background-checked crews. Major work like tear-offs is planned for breaks whenever possible. When a mid-year emergency forces bigger work, we phase it around the schedule and coordinate directly with your administration.
How do you help districts budget and plan for bond cycles?
With evidence. We baseline every roof in the portfolio with scans and condition scores, then build a multi-year plan that sequences replacements by condition and consequence. Facilities directors use these reports in board presentations and bond planning — a scan image of wet insulation is more persuasive to voters than any adjective.
What about safety with students around?
We assume students are nearby on every education project, all year. That means fenced and secured staging, protected walkways, no unattended equipment or materials, and crews briefed on campus protocols. Background checks are standard where districts require them — and we recommend requiring them.

A free assessment now means evidence for the board, materials ordered on time, and a roof finished before the first bell. The best summer projects are decided in April.
