What spray foam is — and how it works.
Spray polyurethane foam goes on liquid and rises into a monolithic, self-flashing insulation layer — no seams, no laps, no fasteners, and the highest R-value per inch on any roof. A silicone or acrylic coating over the foam provides UV protection and waterproofing.
That layering defines the maintenance reality: the foam is the structure, the coating is the roof. Coating wear, bird pecks, and hail bruises open the foam to water locally — damage that stays cheap only while it’s found early. SPF without a recoat plan is a countdown; with one, it may never need tearing off.

How often does SPF need recoating?
Typically every 10–20 years depending on the coating system and installed millage — and the honest schedule comes from a millage survey, not the calendar. Recoat on time and the foam beneath may never be exposed.
Is spray foam roofing durable enough for hail country?
SPF handles hail differently: it bruises rather than shatters, and bruises are locally repairable. In Texas hail zones we spec higher-density foam and thicker coatings — and inspect after qualifying storms, because small breaches are cheap only when found.
Can wet spray foam be dried out or repaired?
Wet cells can’t be dried in place, but they’re surgically repairable: infrared maps the wet foam, we scarf it out, refoam, and recoat. It’s the most contained moisture repair in roofing — if it’s caught before it spreads.
